Building Christ-centered marriages,
one couple at a time ™
December 13th Carson and Rochelle – Salina, KS“I learned a lot from this course that I never would have otherwise thought too much about.”
Him:I thought the online part was very easy to navigate and our sponsors got back to us very quickly and gave very good feedback that helped answer any questions that we had. I'm not a big fan of technology and online things but this was very user friendly. I liked how fast we got our answers back so that we could continue when we had the time to do so together instead of waiting around and not being able to when we had the time.
Her: I thought it was a good class and I got quite a bit out of it. I learned a lot and our responses were given back to us quick. I appreciated the in-depth answers because it felt like it was really directed towards us and not just a dry-cut answer. It showed me that God is the center of all things good and he needs to be the center of everything, marriage most important.
Both: It allowed us to talk about topics that we may have not otherwise ever talked about or even thought of talking about. It also taught us patience with each other.
December 14th Steven and Alisha – San Diego, CA “This course gave us a spiritual insight into daily life, and encouraged us to involve God in our daily activities, and to have faith as we proceed in life.”
Him:We liked the course. It was very educational and spiritual. It helped us to ask a few hard questions about ourselves and about each other, which was very good. I liked the scripture readings and educational videos from the guests. I liked how difficult topics like forgiveness, conscience, NFP were explained very well.
Her: I really enjoyed doing the course. It has helped me to understand more about marriage and to always keep Jesus as a center of the marriage. I am excited to start this journey. I am very thankful to acquire additional knowledge and guidance from [our instructors] who are very inspiring and great role models.
Both:It had made us aware of NFP, Financial planning, God’s Plan of Marriage. We had some good discussions and we both got an understanding of how to work things out well.
December 15th Bert and Laura – Fort Worth, TX “I really appreciated the explanation of love.”
Him:Absolutely enjoyed the entire process. I felt this programmed for us talking about things that are very valuable to a marriage and we would have never thought about talking about until the time came. Definitely believe this course will build a solid foundation for our marriage.
Her:I believe this course was very well organized. We received feedback in a very timely manner which was very appreciated. I also feel like we grew a lot from the discussions we had. There were some topics we did not talk about before and it was good because it forced us to have hard conversations. We truly thank you for your time and support. It revived my faith my finding a deeper connection to God. It gave me a better understanding of the magnitude of the sacrament of marriage.
Both:It made us a bit more open minded and allowed us to express ourselves a in a healthy way.
December 16th Denny and Karen – Baltimore, MD “This course made me excited to get married in the church, and I can't wait.”
Him:I enjoyed being able to take classes wherever I was. We both travel a lot and that makes in person classes so hard. I worked on this course in San Francisco, CA; Baltimore, MD; and, Jacksonville, Florida.
Her:Just like Denny I travel a lot, so it was nice to be able to print out the questions and work on them while I was on the move. I would pass my answers to Denny when I would see him. I worked on the courses in Indianapolis, Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. The course covered everything I expected it would. We are on the move and it was nice to have the option to work on it when we could.
Both:It made us really have the conversation about how our shared religion will be 100% apart of our lives.
December 17th Nathan and Amanda – Sioux City, IA “I appreciated how in depth everything was to give me a better understanding about each lesson.”
Him:Overall, it helped me understand more about the Catholic faith and Catholic marriage. Gave good insights on how we can live a happy marriage. It revived us by helping us go to Church more often then we did and understand more about what is being preached while present there.
Her:I got into the class more than I thought I would. It was interesting to go in depth about marrying into the Catholic church. There was a lot I didn't know and understand and at this point I have a better understanding of it all. It revived our faith. We now go to church more often and understand the readings that are said at mass. We now take the time each day to pray/talk to God.
Both:We were open and honest about each lesson and it brought us closer together in our relationship with each other and God.
December 4th Ben and Megan – Colorado Springs, CO“It taught me to pay closer attention to the scriptures and live more in accordance with them.”
Him:I think it gave a good understanding of what it means to receive the sacrament of marriage in the church and what is expected from both the husband and wife. It showed me that I have an obligation to Megan not only on this planet but forever and that if I want to make it to heaven then I need to make sure I do everything that I can to get Megan to heaven first.
Her: I liked the quizzes where we had to write our own answers and then discuss them with one another because it forced us to talk about things that are generally hard to talk about.
Both: We think it improved our communication because we made an effort to these lessons and as a result had to talk about things we have not talked about in the past.
December 5th Timothy and Jaime – Kansas City, KS “I appreciated the practical teachings of the church regarding marriage that I had never been exposed to.”
Him:We found it to be very thorough and it provoked discussion that we would not have otherwise had.
Her: I enjoyed it very much. It required us to do some research to continue the discussion and answer appropriately. I didn't think it would be as in depth and thorough as it was. It made me realize how serious marriage is (as a sacrament and commitment) and in many ways, I would say that it strengthened our relationship.
Both:We are working on becoming better active listeners and learning how to give apology and seek forgiveness sooner in arguments.
December 6th Alexander and Kelly – Baltimore, MD “It caused me to think more about my faith and what I hope to get out of my marriage on a more deeper level.”
Him:Appreciated the feedback of a married couple on such important matters. Exceeded expectations, wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It was great. Very informative. The advisors were helpful in their feedback.
Her:I had different expectations than what this was going to be. I was happily surprised. It provided good information that caused us to communicate. I appreciated the feedback and found it to not be pushy but caused us to think in different ways about things.
Both:It covered topics that we thought about on a deeper level.
December 7th Noel and Whitney – San Francisco, CA “It revived my faith and made me appreciate God on a deeper level”
Him:It was thought provoking and it definitely gave me a sense of what issues may arise later on, allowing us to be more prepared for when they do arise. It helped shed some light on some issues that I have never heard about before. It revived my faith because we discussed the ways we would be passing on our religion to our children. We want them to understand why we say grace before you eat, why we go to church, and other practices of our faith.
Her:This course definitely made me think about our relationship in a whole different light. It helped me to understand what marriage really means, what we can expect and what we can do to keep working on it. It challenged us to talk about issues we never talked about before and I think that they are important to know before going into the marriage. I am one of those people that likes to learn and using my knowledge to my advantage. I appreciated that the course touched on different areas of our relationship and providing us with the knowledge and tools to not only think about or discuss, but to improve. We realize where we agree and where we can agree to disagree.
Both:It provided us tools to communicate better, for instance, using active listening. It also put us in situations where we had to come up with win-win outcomes, which we found to be challenging.
December 8th Michael and Ashley – Denver, CO “I appreciate the information and help my understand more about marriage the true meaning be hide it.”
Him:My overall impression is going into marriage classes I knew very little about the meaning of God purpose but with these classes help me understand and learn different aspect of marriage and God's love.
Her:My impression of this course helped me to realized that I was starting on the right track with your information it help to push me a little further toward what marriage real means with God's help to guide me. I think taking this course opened up my heart and really getting closer into my faith by learning more about God and what he wants from us.
Both:As a couple we learned little more about ourselves and how we can communicate and being about to listen to each other more being able to share our thoughts and idea of what is coming in our near future.
November 27th Alvin and Amanda – Honolulu, HI “It renewed my desire to follow God.”
Him: This class made me learn new things about the Catholic faith in regards to marriage. I liked this class, it was good. I enjoyed the self-pace of it. A lot of the topics we learned were things we were already discussing about how we wanted our relationship to be.
Her: Made me appreciate the gifts that God has given me and I need to show him how much I appreciate his love to Alvin and I and I want to be a better person living God's word.
Both: It improved our communication because it opened the door for it. Taboo topics became something to address because “it was an assignment”. But it forced us to have these conversations to lay the groundwork and understanding than rather having not discussed it.
November 28th Linus and Flavia – Vadodara, Gujarat “We are more encouraged on growing in God's love and faith as a couple and also follow the same values to our growing family.”
Him:There was a lot of knowledge gain regarding different aspects of marriage life. Overall i am really happy that I got a chance to attend this marriage prep.
Her: Yes, it did meet my expectations I got to learn a lot from this course, It was a a great media to know him and his ideas even better. We had fun and more understanding regarding marriage with all the assignments. It was good learning different aspects of marriage, especially the assignments like matrimony, forgiveness and green sex. It added a lot to my knowledge about marriage and its different phases.
Both:The course assignments was really helpful and gave us an opportunity to know each other even better. It helped us understand different aspects that can come across a married life. We could communicate well about our differences and compatibility issues. Overall it was very helpful and we will try to keep up to all the teachings.
November 29th Parker and Emily – Tulsa, OK “It revived my faith by showing me how God will help our marriage.”
Him: I think that this preparation class was very insightful, and provided good points on which to reflect. Our sponsoring couple was very friendly, personal and knowledgeable. We felt like we were in good hands. I am very happy that I took this course and would recommend it to others.
Her:I couldn't be happier that Parker and I decided to take this journey of "catholic marriage" together. This prep class was a wonderful start to that journey. It helped us reflect on our experiences and our relationship with God, and also armed us with "marriage tools" to ensure a happy, lifelong marriage. While we have an incredibly strong relationship, it was lacking a spiritual component. These courses have inspired us both to be better Catholics and to invite God into our marriage.
Both:The courses started conversations about topics that we had not approached in the past. It helped us trust one another even more and showed us the value of open communication with each other and God.
November 30th Corey and Ashley – Altoona-Johnstown, PA “This course helped to tie together how marriage and God coincide and why it is so important to have faith at the center of your relationship.”
Him:It was a great learning experience on the relationship of marriage and the Catholic Church. We will definitely utilize some of the concepts taught in this class as our marriage and relationship grow. I felt a closer connection as the knowledge and understanding became more relevant within myself and within our relationship. The ability to relate helped create a closer bond with God.
Her:This class allowed us the opportunity to discuss several different topics that I’m sure will come up over the course of our marriage.I appreciated having time set aside for Corey and I to talk about these important topics and not only discuss them, but also think about them deeply enough to write down our feelings and submit them to our instructors. I also appreciated understanding more about the role that the Church and God can play in our marriage moving forward.
Both:It helped by streamlining topics of conversation and allowed us to discuss things that might have been difficult to bring up otherwise. These classes also gave us dedicated time to make sure we were on the same page with so many important topics. Rather than answering the questions superficially to get through the course, we really spent a lot of time talking and understanding each other’s point of view.
December 1st Travis and Jami – Harrisburg, PA “I appreciated learning more about the Catholic faith.”
Him:It was very beneficial; I learned a lot about ourselves and most importantly how we are going to grow even closer to God together and myself.
Her:I think it was great! The lessons were in depth but it was nice to take time to really think about the answers, pray together and learn about each other more. I think coming closer to God is so important and our lives in the next chapter we will only deepen our love for each other and God.
Both:Each lesson brought us closer to each other! Some had insightful things that the other never would have known if it weren't for the lesson. Some answers were super impressive while we did His and Hers; it was fun to read each other's answers!
November 20th Michael and Jennifer – Fort Worth, TX“It was great! It helped me become so much closer to [my partner].”
Him: It made me come back to and think about so many of God's teachings. In doing so I again saw the beauty of the church and its purpose. It inspires me continually to get involved and practice my faith.
Her: I thought that the preparation was wonderful. It was a great experience to participate in the preparation with an actual couple who have so much experience. The answers provided were detailed, and informative. We learned so much about each other and grew in our spirituality through this course. I truly feel like we are ready for marriage after taking this course.
Both: We were taught so many tools and given so many resources to help with our communication. The questions in the lessons helped us to practice those methods, and we have been using them in our communications regularly. One particular tool we have found useful is how to rephrase grievances we have in a neutral way through "I messages" rather than assigning blame.
November 21th Austin and Charyssa – Tucson, AZ “It provided me with not only a better but a clearer understanding of the teachings of the Church”
Him: I personally loved it. This course provided a better and more thorough explanation to why the Church promotes certain practices such as NFP, abstinence before marriage, and even providing examples of how to better communicate and resolve issues.
Her: I thought this course was very interesting, I do not have a lot of experience with some of the practices and traditions of the Catholic Church but this course provided a lot of insight and at some points provided a guide to help build and foster a healthy marriage.
Both:This course not only provided examples and solutions for ways to better communicate on certain issues such as the growing family dynamic, finances, as well as the importance of daily prayer; but also clarified and brought to light a few other issues we had not thought of yet such as: NFP, issues that may arise with ---, but mainly how to properly listen and respect your spouse in regards to their feelings with those practice questions provided in the last assignment about listening (which I think we may need to look over again.
November 22th Kaylon and Bhrea – Lafayette, LA “This definitely renewed my desire to get closer to God and his Church.”
Him: This class was amazing! I feel so much closer to God than before. I definitely realized I was living my life the wrong way and this is the catalyst to start living it the right way.I was thinking this was going to be something typical, but it was much more.
Her: This class was very informative. I was able to learn a lot more about the Catholic faith and the Sacrament of Marriage. I gained a better understanding of the relationship that God wants us to have as well as how we should live our lives. This course went above and beyond my expectations. I am so grateful for [our instructor’s]. They shared things about their relationship that they did not have to. The comments were always positive and specific to each question.
Both: It taught us to listen to each other more.
November 23th Marius and Lea – Atlanta, GA “Made me reflect more on our relationship”
Him: It's a learning experience. As long as we live we will constantly learn. I must say this course is good even for couples married years ago, that want to bring that spark of love, harmony back in their marriage.
Her: It was a great experience. This course opened my eyes on subject that I knew already but did not pay too much attention to.
Both: For a while now we learned to communicate and listen to each other a little better but this course definitely gave us some more great insights on how to improve our communication skills.
November 24th Bradley and Krissy – Savannah, GA “It was actually much more thorough than I thought”
Him: My overall impression of the course was that it was very thorough. It taught me a lot about the Catholic faith, especially as someone learning from the outside. In some ways this potentially helped me find small ways to practice my faith on my own, although it was not always something I connected to.
Her: I believe the course ignited my desire to get closer to God because I feel as if there is still so much I have to learn. I was raised Catholic and still learned many of the topics.
Both: All of the topics given in the course, we have already discussed. While answering the assignments though, the questions would spark some differences and lead to a discussion allowing us to revisit the topics and share our feelings on issues.
November 13th Justin and Hada – Houma-Thibodaux, LA“I feel as though every time I spend on learning about Jesus and God, I become filled with a peaceful loving desire to go further.”
Him: I enjoyed the class because I felt that it addressed many of the important aspects that need to be covered in order to be fully prepared for a catholic marriage. I am glad that I took the course, but I originally was just looking at it as something else we needed to check off our list before the big day. I do feel it really helped us grasp the sacredness of marriage.
Her: My overall impression of this prep was that it covered a lot of ground. I appreciated all the information about NFP, although we will be researching more in-depth about it and how to begin it. I also felt like the birth control information sank in deeply and made me reflect a lot. It's so hard to choose only 1 thing I appreciated the most!
Both: Learning about the you-message vs. I-message was a good reminder to consider how our message, and the delivery of it, affects the other person.
November 14th Jason and Jordan – Crookston, MN “It was informative and created discussion.”
Him: It was informative and created discussion, [our instructors] were very knowledgeable, their answers were personal and in depth. The course covered the topics I was expecting and the instructors gave great explanations, they gave examples to help relate it to their experiences.
Her: I enjoyed the course. It brought forth lots of interesting and important topics. I learned a lot and value all the information [our instructors] shared. I was worried how the online classes wouldn't be as personal but they made it very personal with examples of situations in their own lives or couples they know. It was nice. It reminded me how important my relationship with God is. It also made me aware of how important it is to me to build my relationships in accordance to God's teachings.
Both: It did improve communication. It's something we both want to get better at and it was a great first step towards that goal.
November 15th Jon and Angela – Sioux City, IA “I appreciated the in-depth subjects which raised very honest and candid answers from each other.”
Him: I thought the overall prep hit all of the key subjects in detail and with great enthusiasm. The Bible readings connected to modern day YouTube videos, etc., helped make God's lessons 'current' which I'll continue to challenge myself & our family with keeping our faith 'current'.
Her: I really enjoyed the conversation that this course encouraged. I felt like [our instructors] were right there in the room with us even though we haven't met. I would highly recommend this course for couples that have to deal with distance or difficult schedules.
Both: We both feel more comfortable talking about uncomfortable topics --- we will continue this. The course was great & the platform was very easy to use.
November 16th Tony and Stephanie – Denver, CO “The course explains how marriage gets us closer to God.”
Him: The prep was very interesting. The material will help me to understand my role going forward. The information that was provided in the assignments is helpful in many ways.I like the videos and lectures. The audio portion of the prep class helped me to understand the perspective of the lesson.
Her: I thought it was good. I thought it encouraged us to talk about things we wouldn't have beforehand. I think it sets us up well, prepares us well.I also enjoyed the videos. I like getting the feedback from the support couple, especially when we had questions.
Both: We are in the process of getting closer. The course offers tools to help us communicate better with each other. We are happy that we can work on our communication with the knowledge we have gained from the course.
November 17th Tuan and Lynda – Kansas City, KS “I believe that this class has helped me want to learn the Bible and the church more thoroughly.”
Him: This class has raised issues and topics of discussion between Lynda and I. I feel that this class has helped us develop more as a couple. I did not think that a class would be able to help us develop our relationship more, but it has done so. I appreciated the exercises that we had to do together. Reviewing her answers and seeing how they differ or aligned with mine helped us discuss our similarities or differences.
Her: This class felt like the very necessary bible study course to re-fresh and enhance our knowledge of God together prior to our marriage journey. I realized there is so much about the bible that I don’t know or understand. I enjoyed going more in depth in the passages. In addition, when we attend Sunday mass now, the readings and gospels are sounding more familiar, because we’ve heard it before in our assignments.
Both: This course prompted conversations we never would’ve started on our own. In going through the questions and answers together, it gave us the perfect opportunity to share our opinions with one another.
November 6th Jared and Ashley – Baltimore, MD“The sections that stimulated unique in depth discussions that we would not have otherwise had definitely met my expectations.”
Him: Very informative in terms of the belief systems of the Catholic church. It did provide some great talking points and led to some great discussion on certain topics. It exceeded my expectations in many ways.
Her: This preparation covered many different aspects of marriage and the catholic church. The sections where we discussed in depth relationship expectations were very helpful in guiding and inspiring discussions between myself and Jared.
Both: Discussed topics we normally would never have had discussions on. More open to talking out difficult questions. We loved hearing about [our instructors] their journey as a couple as well as in the catholic church. We are excited to move forward in our journey and continue preparing for an amazing marriage together.
November 7th Alex and Dannielle – Fort Collins, CO “The class revived my faith by reminding me of what is important and the teachings of the Church.”
Him: I felt the course was a good balance in review on some past topics as well as allowed for opportunity to learn new materials as well as growth areas discussed during the feedback sessions. The course also allowed for us to work on a timetable the fit our complicated schedule so we could complete the course together as a couple.
Her: I thought the prep covered a wide range of topics that sparked good discussions and helped us grow closer before our marriage. It helped to continually remind us of the true reason and purpose for our marriage and facilitated good discussions about our future and our lives together.
Both: The content of the lectures and scriptural readings allowed us to have ongoing conversations about the different topics outside of the virtual "classroom" environment. These ideas and directions sparked an ongoing dialogue that we both could share.
November 8th Kevin and Caitlyn – Memphis, TN “I feel like God was with us while we worked together on these worksheets.”
Him: The course reminds us of what's important in marriage and WHY we get married. God is and should be the center of all that we do. I cannot wait to be the man God wanted me to be for my wife and future kids and I cannot wait to have a faithful, holy marriage to please God.
Her: I loved this prep. I learned so much more about WHY the church teachings what it does and how all the different parts play one role together in the end. I loved how it broke everything down into simple easy to follow steps and explained everything so well. This prep definitely made me even more excited to start my marriage journey and invite Christ into our lives along the way.
Both: We sat down with each other during each worksheet and really talked about what the scripture passages meant and were able to ignite certain conversations we had never gone into depth over. We both saw sides of each other and new love for God we have never seen before. This is definitely the beginning of a wonderful journey of life together! We are so excited!!
November 9th Andrew and Courtney – Detroit, MI “It made us think deeper about things we normally would not thing about.”
Him: It was informative and we learned a lot and it made us communicate well together face to face. We talked about things we likely would not have if we did not take the course. The conversations that we had we very intimate and that was nice to communicate in that way because we normally do not.
Her: It was great! Very detailed feedback was provided and the information was very thought provoking and has prepared us for our marriage and what we have to look forward to as well as what we will work at. It is always good to have an outside view of what we can expect in our future and how we can try to solve the issues that may come up and how to remain faithful and live our lives through God.
Both: It improved our communication because we were open and honest with each other even if they were difficult conversations. We got our thoughts out so we can understand each other and what our expectations will be in married life.
November 10th Steve and Amberly – San Juan Bautista, NM “I appreciated that it brought us closer together.”
Him: I really enjoyed the prep because it helped us to gain a deeper understanding with one another and our marriage. it made me think a lot more about or faith and did renew our desire to get closer to god we have be also getting the holy family delivered to us once a mouth and pray to as a family we also talk about the bible and the word of the Lord.
Her: I enjoyed the prep because, well I am new to the Catholic faith and it was meant a lot and was really helpful for me to gain a deeper insight. It made my faith that much stronger I recently did my confirmation and felt close with God and Steven supported me every step and attend every class as a refresher for himself and also to feel closer to God. I think it made our relationship stronger with having taken those class and these lessons we have be attending church and talk about the gospel.
Both: It did improve our communication because we were able to share ideas and perspectives.
October 16th James and Phoebe – San Francisco, CA“This course was useful in learning about marriage, communication, and the Catholic church.”
Him: My overall impression of this class is amazing and insightful. This class has brought much insight of the Sacrament of Matrimony and Forgiveness to me. I learn so much in the progression of the course and I will use and hold this knowledge for the rest of my life. This class gives a great assistance and prepared us to live as a married couple into one body and feel closer to her as we found different view of our live, love, truth and faith.
Her: I so enjoyed this program and the class was a great way to focus our minds to prepare for the marriage life. We learned so much since I am appreciated the feedback which our instructors given to us. It also helped us to focus our minds and clarify our plans.
Both: This course absolutely improved our communication. We were able to talk and work through some topics (Natural Family Planning). We openly discussed our answers we originally provided with Jill and Bret in our initial interview to begin our marriage folder. We honestly discuss and communicate well with one another and this course indicated certain topics that we can discuss more in future.
October 17th Ryan and Michelle – St. Louis, MO “It reminded me of how important yet overlooked the spiritual side of a relationship is.”
Him: It was very informative with substantial material. I wish we lived in the same state to have the freedom to really dive into this but I think this just gives us a taste of what we can look forward to in our life together as parishioners. We are excited for couples retreats and looking at getting involved with Marriage Encounter to add a much-needed spiritual aspect to couples counseling.
Her: I have enjoyed delving into deep conversations with Ryan and talking through both of our perspectives and how we were brought up within the Catholic Church. It has been nice to see that Ryan and I are on the same page about most topics, but we still have unique perspectives that will help and add to our marriage.
Both: It allowed us to delve deeper into very delicate topics. We have talked about our desire to have children, but we had not discussed NFP yet, but we are both onboard and excited to practice NFP and to bring greater intimacy within our marriage. We also had not discussed how we would discipline our children, and this is something that we need to continue to talk about.
October 18th Julian and Colleen – Portland, ME “It definitely reminded me of the role that the Church once played in my life, and still plays in the world around me.”
Him: It was a good way to take a better look at the "nuts and bolts" of our relationship, and helped affirm that our love is built on a solid foundation of trust, respect, and selflessness.
Her: The feedback appreciated our point of view, and was more guiding than correcting or commanding.
Both: It provided topics for in-depth discussion which haven't necessarily arisen naturally. We have discussed future plans, children, etc., but not necessarily our own relationships with God and Christ.
October 20th John and Abigail – Detroit, MI “It gave us a conversation starter and a nice perspective to see what we agreed or felt differently on.”
Him: I really enjoyed this. I learned a lot about marriage and relationship in general. I also got to look a little deeper in what marriage means in the church. And it was nice to get back responses to our responses and answers.
Her: I thought it was very helpful. I learned a lot of information that I didn't know and you both were very helpful. It also made John and I slow down and talk about things and focus on each other instead of just everything we have to do for the wedding.
Both: It gave us a better way to communicate and more urgent need of its importance to keep our relationship strong.
October 20th Matthew and Eden – Altoona-Johnstown, PA “It brings me closer to God knowing that there is much that I can improve on.”
Him: It gave me a lot of insight into why the Church has a lot of its opinions and where these opinions can be traced back to the bible
Her: It was very informative, eye-opening, and brought us closer together as well as closer to God. It gave me a greater idea of married life and definitely made me feel more prepared. It went beyond my expectations and I have already begun recommending the online prep because I believe it allows you to be more open and honest while still having an open connection with your sponsors.
Both: It allowed us to look at both sides, compromise, expectations and listening.
October 23th Tyler and Aryn – Houma-Thibodaux, LA“The class brought us closer together in the evenings and gave us time away from the rest of the world to discuss our future.”
Him: I found this class was very nice. It went in depth on each topic and through that I learned a lot about a successful marriage. I appreciated how we had to sit down and work on these assignments together. It brought us closer together as a couple.
Her: This class was very informative and taught me more about God and what it takes to have a successful Marriage and Family. It made me want to find a church in Texas that Tyler and I can become a part of, so when we do start a family we will knowledge them of God.
Both: It made us discuss our beliefs and goals for the future.
October 24th Jack and Mallory – Lafayette, LA “It was a gentle reminder and push to take more control and be more involved in my relationship with Christ.”
Him: I feel the class overall has helped me have a better understanding of what it means to be married. I also feel that it has given me more tools to help with making a marriage work and also showcased the importance and significance of having God as part of your married life.
Her: Overall, I feel that this class was very educational and beneficial to our impending marriage. It was personal and detailed and helped to provide in-depth exploration of all facets of a marriage. I feel confident that together we are prepared for the covenant we are entering into with one another and with God.
Both: Overall, I feel that this class was very educational and beneficial to our impending marriage. It was personal and detailed and helped to provide in-depth exploration of all facets of a marriage. I feel confident that together we are prepared for the covenant we are entering into with one another and with God.
October 25th Jordan and Nicolette – New York, NY “It helped reinforce my faith by learning how to incorporate my faith into my relationship more.”
Him: This was an incredibly convenient course that we found to bring up some great exercises and talk out our expectations. The feedback seemed really personalized. It was evident that our answers were read and that was nice considering we took so much time to create those answers.
Her: The course was awesome and I would recommend this to any of my friends getting married in the church. The online aspect of this course was really great because of the difference of schedules that Jordan and I have. It helped by giving me a new perspective. I never really looked at our relationship, let alone almost marriage with Christ involved, but now I do and am going to work on allowing that.
Both: Things like work, finances, and plans for children were all on the table to talk about.
October 26th Douglas and Caitlin – Lansing, MI “This course reminded me about my faith and what it means in a big picture format.”
Him: This class made me critically think about very important topics that I otherwise would have not imagined might be important. I had many assumptions about roles and problem solving that were important to start talking about now, rather than when it might be too late.
Her: I think this course was ideal for both Doug and I. We felt that we had a very strong sense for the importance of communication, but this course taught us that communication is more than important. It is the difference between a happy, successful marriage and a weak, destructive marriage. Beyond that we had a great time discussing the answer responses from both sets of our mentors, across this course.
Both: As we discussed throughout the assignments and in this review, this course definitely showed us more complete ways to communicate. Importantly, this course was instrumental in showing us how important constant and honest communication is.
October 27th Murillo and Thaynara – Atlanta, GA “I felt very blessed about everything.”
Him: I had no idea how the course would be, at first, I thought of being advice only on the life we would follow, but this course makes us rethink everything we have already done and really prepares us for the future as much as a human being as in family life. The course surprised me to prepare for life in every way, we will take these lessons and we will seek new ones every day. We will be eternally grateful for all the attention you have given us.
Her: This course led me to have more desire to learn about God because I could think of His desires and teachings and realized that I still do not know practically anything that I need to know. I have faith He has more great things for my life and I accept it.
Both: This course has helped us to have more dialogue, patience, forgiveness. We seek the word of God together, we believe in improving our married life and communication.
Her: I am so enjoyed this program and the class was a great way to focus our minds to prepare for the marriage life. We learned so much since I am appreciated the feedback which our instructors given to us. It also helped us to focus our minds and clarify our plans.
Both: This course absolutely improved our communication. We were able to talk and work through some topics. We openly discussed our answers we originally provided in our initial interview to begin our marriage folder.
October 9th Travis and Brooke – Lafayette, LA“This made me want to get closer to God and more engaged in my faith.”
Him:I liked the class overall. I like that it was self-paced and gave us time to complete the assignments on our own. I appreciated the time it too to complete and the in depth questions, as well as the feedback from [our instructors].
Her: I thought that, overall, this class covered many of the main points that you want to take into consideration and prepare with your future spouse for before marriage. I appreciated the time it took to give such great, thoughtful feedback by our instructors on the answer keys.
Both: It brought a lot of good points that are so simple and so profound back to light in my life and faith.
October 10thKristian and Emily – Denver, CO “I think that it made me look closer about my faith and gave me some insight on where to start with raising children within the Church teachings.”
Him:It was much different than I thought it was going to be. I thought that it was excellent, and really had a methodology to it. It was much less intimidating than I thought it was going to be.
Her: This was my first experience with actual Catholic theology. I'm Episcopalian, and while the teachings are very similar, this class really helped clarify questions that I had about the Catholic Church and thought that it was really insightful. I'm inspired to maybe go further with Catholicism.
Both: Because one of us is Catholic and one Episcopalian, it gave us an opportunity to teach each other and bond over a problem solving experience. Each of us has unique strengths when it comes to things like this and it allowed us to explore and use those traits together. There were times where we disagreed with each other on some teachings and some topics and it allowed us to discuss them rationally and helped interpret some questions we both had to find a common ground. All in all, it was a fun and very beneficial experience.
October 11th Robert and Kathleen – Washington, MD “It brought into perspective how God will be a third pillar in our marriage.”
Him:This prep was very thorough and brought up many different topics of marriage as well as what it means to be a Catholic on a personal level. I appreciated how it integrated passages and teaching from the church to provide a modern perspective of what marriage is supposed to be.
Her:This class brought a deep understanding of Catholic teachings and what a Catholic marriage is meant to be and how to set up a foundation for a successful marriage. I appreciated the communication skills discussion. It helped me learn how to actually be an active listener to be able to acknowledge other's feelings and how to express my own feelings effectively.
Both: Reading and practicing active listening was very helpful. We liked reading the column about what is good to do in order to hear the other and how to respond. It was even better to be able to read an example and how to put that active listening into action in a real life situation.
October 12th Issac and Yodit – Oakland, CA “It made me see how pure and happy you can be when your base for everything is God”
Him:The Prep was really impressive and so insightful. I learned a lot and will keep it in heart throughout the rest of my life.
Her:It was very deep and meaningful, explaining why we should do things as the church expects us to do or live by. A lot of questions answered and I grew a lot from it.
Both:We had more time to discuss and share our ideas and understandings and we learned to even learn to hear and appreciate our personal perspectives along with the answer key and teachings of the church.
October 13th Jonathan and Rose – San Jose, CA “It was an eye opener and not anything I expected it would be”
Him: It revived my faith because at some point through my career with the military it started to fade, but with this class, it helped me open my eyes to Him again. I appreciated the forgiveness cards the most because I now know the meaning of unforgivable and forgivable sins.
Her:It was actually more than I thought it would be. The feedbacks were great, gave us a better understanding of each and every question presented to us. It revived my faith by making it stronger and giving me a better understanding of things that go on in a marriage.
Both:We were more open to one another, able to share feelings we've never shared before and understand certain things about the other person that made us stronger and closer as a couple.
